Gun Lake Michigan Aerial Photograph

What We Do

Here's what the GLPA Does for You:

  • Monitor MDEQ permit requests from homeowners and businesses for seawall, docks, boardwalks, etc. We provide input to the MDEQ on all requests we feel threaten the health and well being of Gun Lake. We pay for legal representation at public hearings on these matters when appropriate.

  • Educate all on exotic plants and animal species which threaten our lake and thus our home values.

  • Assist the GLIB in aquatic plant surveys and weed treatment plans, and work closely with them to identify all drains which empty into our lake for possible corrective action.

  • Inform residents of rules against funneling, i.e. mooring other people’s boats in front of homes not registered to home owner. Advise who to report such ordinance violations.

  • Completed and are continuing a study of Gun Lake’s recreational carrying capacity in order to identify use patterns and overcrowding levels of boating.

  • Each year we sponsor a special celebration of the Fourth of July with a spectacular fireworks display.  Consult the calendar for exact dates.

  • Provide a website for information dissemination. www.myglpa.com

  • Work closely with State Legislators to provide input on environmental and water quality issues.

  • Provide 2 newsletters each year to keep our property owners up to date with issues relevant to our lake community.

  • Procure advertisers, organize, update, publish and deliver over 1,300 directories to members of GLPA.

  • Provide a paid Administrative Officer who maintains our financial records, pays bills, maintains our database, and assists your BOD in carrying out our numerous projects.

  • Maintain 3 large fish rearing ponds for stocking our lake. GLPA is responsible for all costs of repairs to the fish ponds.

WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT, ALL OF THIS WOULD NOT BE ACCOMPLISHED!
